Some years ago when I first developed a curiosity to learn Jyotish, it was motivated (in large part) by a need to understand the instability which I was experiencing in my professional life. Although I had no issues landing jobs the difficulty was in sustaining them for a long period. I found that I was not finding the desired mental satisfaction or stability within the work domain. This pattern of instability and dissatisfaction carried on for six plus years and this prompted me to investigate my own chart. Needless to say the Tenth House has held my fascination since. It is in that spirit I am sharing with you what little I managed to gather on the Tenth House over the years. The nature of Jyotisha is such that it is an ever-expanding field of study which never really ends so I may well revise certain statements here in the future, if there arises a need to update them or add to them.

Various Significations of the Tenth House (as per different classical texts and established authorities of Jyotish):

BV Raman: The native’s occupation, temporal honours, foreign travels, self-respect, dignity and the means of livelihood are seen from the 10th House.

“If the 10th House and 11th House are both occupied by malefics, the native will indulge only in wrongful actions or deeds and bring disrepute to his own men (meaning his own tribe or community).” - Sage Parasara, BPHS, Ch. 21

Karakas

The Karakas (chief significators) of the 10th House are Saturn, Mercury, Sun and Jupiter according to the text Jataka Parijata. When judging the effects of 10th House one has to study the placement of karakas and their dignity and their relation to the 10th House as well. When the karakas, the 10th House and the ruler of the 10th House are all placed in good dignity then the various beneficial results of 10th House matters come to fruition. The 7th House being 10th to 10th (Bhavat Bhavam) should also be examined thoroughly.

Planets in the 10th House

Some general meanings of planets placed in the 10th House. Keep in mind as these are general statements they will naturally differ from chart-to-chart depending on the many variables influencing the 10th House, such as Nakshatra, pada, rasi, aspects, conjunctions, dispositor strength, etc.

Surya (Sun) in the 10th House: The native with this placement has good administrative skills and leadership qualities which can be applied in his work life. This native is not suited for teamwork roles wherein he has to take orders and instructions from others. He is more suited for leadership roles or independent roles within his work environment. This native will not do well in a subservient capacity wherein they have to bend to the will of others or serve under others. When it comes to work, this native will always play by the rules, play by the book, provided there is no affliction to the Sun. This native is suited for CEO-type roles or roles wherein they can be in command and delegate work to others. All the planets in the sky revolve around the Sun, so the native attracts fame if Sun is well placed. They may have to travel a lot in connection to their work. These natives can excel in politics or government-related work or any work which involves taking the role of a leader. Even managerial or admin-roles may suit them. As the Sun represents the Kshatriya Varna, even roles in the military can be seen with this placement. As Sun is the natural 5th Lord, occupations connected to fame (being in the limelight or spotlight, such as the movie industry) or occupations related to creative self-expression or learning can be suitable. The Sun gains directional strength in this house, so it makes the native ambitious and driven. The Sun is a masculine planet so it is capable of cutting in across competitive work environments. This native can excel in their professional life but others working around them and especially under them might not always find this native to be endearing or sensitive to their needs, given the more aggressive and dominant energy of the Sun which finds expression here.

Chandra (Moon) in the 10th House: The native with this placement may experience a lot of changes or instability in their professional life, depending on the Paksha Bala strength of the Moon. Lots of travel and shifting connected to work may feature in his lifetime. This native seeks emotional fulfilment and mental satisfaction through their career and if they can’t find emotional satisfaction in their line of work then they will quit their jobs or even change their career line no matter how practical or impractical their decision may appear to others. Change is the only constant — this mantra applies here. These are the sort of natives who can refuse a high-paying and high-status job in another company if they feel emotionally fulfilled in their current workplace. Here emotions, not logic or practicality, dictates their decision-making when it comes to their professional life. One is not very practical or logical where Moon is placed in the chart, so all decisions are filtered through the emotional mind. Above all else, for these natives, their profession must bring peace, contentment and emotional fulfilment — this is their primary and deep-seated need when it comes to their work life. Moon is a soft and gentle planet (associated with the feminine principle) and it is a planet associated with pleasures, comforts and sensitivity, so it seeks some form of emotional fulfilment in professional life and seeks recognition for their work. They may not take well to criticism in relation to their work. If Moon is favourably placed it can bring a certain amount of fame to the native at the relevant dasha periods. The native’s reputation will be good if Moon is unafflicted here. These natives can be good in professions where they have to interact with lots of people (jobs that demand high visibility and sociability). They can be excellent counsellors or teachers or therapists or healers. This native may be well liked by others. It is also a good placement for people in the shipping line of work or work connected with water or even agriculture. Occupations related to food or medicine are also suitable. The 10th house is the house exactly opposite Moon’s Digbala house (4th) — hence Moon feels out of its element here and therefore a little uncomfortable.

“One will be endowed with fame if the Moon is placed in the 10th House while the the 10th Lord is in a Trinal House and the Ascendant Ruler is placed in an Angle House.” - Sage Parasara, BPHS, Ch. 21

Budha (Mercury) in the 10th House: This native applies his buddhi (intellect) and uses his discerning and discriminating intelligence to manage his professional life and status. This native can be good at analysis, sharp with calculations, will make use of their memory and mathematical skills at work if Mercury is favourably placed in 10th. Mercury gives dexterity and skills of a varied nature that bodes well for the work environment. This native has multi-tasking abilities and can put his hand in ten different tasks simultaneously. Native can have dual professions or dual sources of earning too. As Mercury relates to the business class, this native can have a profession connected to business or self-earning through trading. Native can use skills of communication in their profession to their advantage. Native can be a good talker or diplomat able to cut deals or manipulate situations to their advantage at work. They can do well in professions where communication skills are essential — such as marketing, media, sales, PR work, etc.

Guru (Jupiter) in the 10th House: This native is good at managing things (macro-management), is good in holding advisory roles, and would excel in professions where they need to play the role of a guide or advisor in some capacity. Native is also good at delegating work to others. This native has the ability to see the big picture when it comes to their professional life. They bring a sense of optimism and broad-minded thinking into their career path. They can excel as teachers or professors if Jupiter is favourably placed.

Shukra (Venus) in the 10th House: This native has sharp focus, good management skills (micro-management), assorted knowledge or knowledge of details (specifics pertaining to their job), and can apply creative or aesthetic skills in their professional life. This placement is excellent for people who are inclined towards creative or artistic lines of work (such as designers, artists, etc) provided other factors in the chart support such a vocation.

Shani (Saturn) in the 10th House: This native works slowly like an old person, but in a very organised, patient, structured and methodical manner. They adopt the slow and steady approach when it comes to work, so they may struggle to cope with professions where things have to be done in a hurry or haste (like under a strict deadline). They adopt a cautious and tentative approach with work but they can be very hard working and diligent if Shani is well placed. They can excel in professions which are connected to mining, iron or steel industries, oil industries or work that requires slow, cautious and efficient actions. They can excel in manual labour work or blue-collar jobs.

“If Saturn is placed in the 10th House along with a debilitated planet while the 10th House from Navamsa Lagna is occupied by a malefic, the native will be bereft of virtuous acts or deeds.” - Sage Parasara, BPHS, Ch. 21

Mangal (Mars) in the 10th House: Mars attains Digbala here, so it is a strong placement. But the native can be a bit overbearing to others (a little similar to Sun in the 10th House) since they can be a bit aggressive or demanding of others in their professional life. Native is suited for work which requires doing things quickly — not suited for slow-paced work or work that requires a lot of patience (like Saturn) or work that involves dealing with long drawn-out projects that need a careful, structured approach. Mars in 10th H native will be good at applying logic and reasoning skills at their profession. They can excel in work connected to science, technical domains, engineering, sports, logic-related, metallurgy, surgery or military.

Rahu in the 10th House: This Native applies his intelligence at work and can adopt shortcuts in getting the work done (shortcuts is not always a bad thing if the work gets done properly). They can think of out-of-the-box solutions in managing their work demands.

Ketu in the 10th House: Native can have leadership skills as part of their past-life learning and wisdom which they can bring into the present lifetime. Native must take advice from others in this area of life when taking any big or important work-related decisions as Ketu can lead to headless decision-making sometimes, which can be detrimental to the native. There can be feelings of dissatisfaction or detachment in relation to their professional life which can force the native to contemplate more deeply on the root causes. These natives can excel in professions connected to microbiology, coding, spirituality or occult.

Since 10th is a Upachaya House, planets and their influences here improve with time. All planets tend to do well in the 10th house (as a thumb rule). But natural benefics (such as Jupiter, Venus, Mercury and Moon) in the 10th House when placed without afflictions form a favourable Amala Yoga. As a general rule, natural benefics are always more desirable (than malefics) in the Kendra Bhavas (1, 4, 7, 10). Sun and Mars in the Tenth House gain Digbala or Directional Strength so these planets too perform well in the 10th.

The Significance of Amala Yoga

Sage Parasara (BPHS, Ch. 36) notes that if there be exclusively a benefic placed in the 10th from Lagna (Ascendant) or Chandra (Moon), a favourable Amala Yoga is formed. This Yoga will confer fame lasting till the moon and stars exist and will make the native honoured by the king (rulers), allow him to enjoy abundant pleasures, and make him charitable, fond of relatives, helpful to others, pious and virtuous by nature.

‘Amala’ means ‘pure’ or ‘spotless’ or ‘stainless’ or ‘one who is free from dirt’. Amala is another name for Goddess Lakshmi. The native with this yoga enjoys a clean reputation and performs good deeds.

BV Raman writes: “When Amala Yoga is present, prosperity and affluence will be achieved through fair or just means while a malefic, whilst giving wealth, may make the means questionable. After all, the end justifies the means according to some, and therefore Amala makes one scrupulous as to the means he employs for earning, whereas a malefic in the 10th House while no doubt good in its own way in terms of bringing wealth, would not make one famous or a man of character.”

Examples of a strong Amala Yoga: KN Rao has an exalted Jupiter in the 10th House from both Lagna & Moon. It shows how a favourable Amala Yoga gave him wide-spread fame within the Jyotish community and other desirable qualities of the Yoga as well.

BV Raman further states: ‘Udayat Indutovapi Yegrahadasamasthithaha Te sarve artha-pradagneya swa dasasu yatoditha’ which means that any planet in the 10th from Lagna or Chandra would bring, during his Dasa, much wealth to the native. Here a malefic is not ruled out.

TENTH LORD THROUGH VARIOUS HOUSES

10th Lord in the 1st House

Sage Parasara: If the 10th lord is in Tanu Bhava, the native will be scholarly, famous, be a poet, will incur diseases in boyhood and be happy later on. His wealth will increase day by day.

DS Mathur: A lot of power, public esteem and prestige is indicated if the owner of the tenth is well located in the first house and the Sun is powerful in the horoscope. The income will be good. The native will like to be his own master and may try to become self employed. He may be learned and would live abroad. He will be of good conduct and may even be inclined to asceticism if there are other suitable factors present in the horoscope. The native will not have good relations with his mother but will be attached to his father. If the owner of the tenth house is a malefic planet, the native will also be antagonistic to his father and his mother will be masculine in nature. He may keep indifferent health in his early years. His children will be in international concerns or may come in close contact with foreigners in their work environment. The native is likely to largely have female children if a powerful owner of the tenth house is connected with Venus or the Moon and the eleventh house in any manner.

BV Raman: The native rises in life by sheer dint of perseverance. He will be self-employed or pursues a profession of independence. When the Lagna and 10th lord combine in the first house the native becomes very famous and a pioneer in his field of work. He founds a public institution and engages himself in social projects.

“Should the 10th Lord be in the Ascendant conjunct the Ascendant Lord while the Moon is placed in an Angle or Trine House, the native will be interested in performing good deeds.” - Sage Parasara, BPHS, Ch. 21

10th Lord in the 2nd House

Sage Parasara: If the 10th lord is in Dhana Bhava, the native will be wealthy, virtuous, honoured by the king, charitable and will enjoy happiness from father and others.

DS Mathur: The native will be highly placed, gain from the government and will be wealthy. He will come from a well known family. The native will do well at school and may come out at the top of successful children at the school examinations. He will be truthful and will honour his word. There is a possibility that the native may join his family business or that his job may involve talking. When the second house is powerful and the owner of the tenth house is well disposed in the second, the native will get a legacy or gain through death of a family member. His mother will gain through her partner but will be greedy. If the owner of the tenth house is weak, afflicted and has no beneficial influence here, the younger sister/brother of the native will be rich and rise high in life.

BV Raman: This placement makes the native fortunate. He rises well in life and makes a lot of money. He may engage himself in the family trade and develop it. If malefics afflict the 10th house he will suffer losses and be responsible for winding up the family business. He will prosper in catering and restaurant businesses.

10th Lord in the 3rd House

Sage Parasara: If the 10th lord is in Sahaj Bhava, the native will enjoy happiness from brothers and servants, be valorous, virtuous, eloquent and truthful.

DS Mathur: The native will not like his mother and younger brothers/ sisters, neighbours and colleagues. The native may not have younger sister/brother, or may have a very limited number, if Mars is a beneficial planet for the chart and is powerfully placed. However his younger sister/brother is likely to reach a high position in life. Whatever position and rank the native attains will be entirely on his own effort. He will be in government service. The native is likely to earn from writing or journalism. He will have to travel over short distances regularly in connection with his job. If the owner of the tenth house is a beneficial planet, he will look after his younger brothers and sisters. The native’s father will earn through partnerships. When the owner of the tenth house is inimical to the owner of the ninth, the native’s father will not like the profession the native takes up. His children will also be in service.

BV Raman: The native may have to travel constantly on short-journeys. He will be a speaker or writer of celebrities if the 10th lord is well-placed. His brothers may be instrumental to some degree in advancing his career. If 10th lord is in 6th, 8th or 12th from Navamsa Lagna or in an unfriendly constellation in the 3rd house, the native’s rise in life is slow and beset with obstacles. If the 3rd lord is also afflicted, rivalry between brothers may lead to reversals, obstacles, etc, in the native’s career.

“If the 10th Lord is devoid of strength, the native will face many obstructions in his professional life.” - Sage Parasara, BPHS, Ch. 21

10th Lord in the 4th House

Sage Parasara: If the 10th lord is in Bandhu Bhava, the native will be happy, be always interested in his mother’s welfare, will Lord over conveyances, lands and houses, be virtuous and wealthy.

DS Mathur: The native will be learned and attached to his parents and will look after them well. He will be respected and will have status in society. He will do well in life and will have house, comforts and vehicles from the government or his profession may have to do with property or vehicles. It is likely that the native’s mother had known his father since childhood and married him, may be for love. However the marital fidelity of the mother will be in doubt. If the owner of the tenth house is weak and afflicted here and does not have beneficial influence, the native’s first child is likely to do well in life abroad and his elder brother/sister will also be well placed. When the owner of the ninth house is related to the owner of the tenth house, the likelihood of the native reaching a very high position in life cannot be discounted. The native’s home will also be his place of work.

BV Raman: The native will be lucky and learned in various subjects. He will be famous both for his learning and generosity. If the 10th lord is strong, the native is respected wherever he goes and he receives royal favour. He may engage in agricultural pursuits or in dealings with immovable properties. If the 4th lord, the 9th lord and 10th are beneficially disposed and related to one another, the native will wield great political authority as a president or head of a government. If the 10th lord is depressed, eclipsed, in an inimical sign or afflicted by malefics, the native will lose his lands and be forced to take to a life of servitude. The same result obtains if the 10th lord conjoins the 8th lord in the 4th house in a malefic Shashtyamsa.

10th Lord in the 5th House

Sage Parasara: If the 10th lord is in Putr Bhava, the native will be endowed with all kinds of learning, he will be always delighted and he will be wealthy and endowed with sons.

DS Mathur: The native will have riches, and children. He may have something to do with the management of programmes of music and fine arts or may earn his wealth through speculation. His job could be related to gambling or games of chance. The owner of the tenth house in the fifth having beneficial influence will make the native religious and given to a simple devotional life. In the alternative, the native could hold the position of a confidante and adviser to a powerful personality. He will be very learned. The native’s children will have high status in society. A powerful owner of the tenth house will be indicative of younger sister/brother being long lived. The owner of the tenth house, if weak and afflicted will act as a powerful significator of death for native’s mother. In any case, the major or sub-periods of the owner of the tenth house will see the native’s mother falling sick repeatedly. Such an owner of the tenth house does not augur well for the health and well being of the spouse of the elder sister/ brother.

BV Raman: The native shines well as a broker and engages in speculation and similar forms of business. If benefics join the lord of the 10th in the 5th house the native leads a simple and pious life engaging himself in prayers and pious activities. He may become the head of an orphanage or remand home if the 10th lord occupies the 6th, 8th or 12th navamsa.

“If the 10th Lord is placed with a benefic or be in an auspicious house, one will always gain through royal patronage and in profession. In a contrary situation, only opposite results will come to pass.” — BPHS, Ch. 21

10th Lord in the 6th House

Sage Parasara: If the 10th lord is in Ari Bhava, the native will be bereft of paternal bliss. Although he may be skilful, he will be bereft of wealth and be troubled by enemies.

DS Mathur: The native will be in a job where he will have to do sinful acts against his wish. The job may involve doing cruel and violent deeds. He may develop enmity in discharge of his duties. He may change his job frequently. He may deal with foreigners or people from distant parts of the country, diseases, hospitals, health matters or pet animals. He may also deal with arms, weapons, explosives etc. He will keep good health. He will be lazy, miserly and will face troubles from his enemies. The enemies will be highly placed and powerful. If the owner of the tenth house is powerful, the native will do well at competitive examinations, and will make his source of income through success at them. A weak and afflicted owner of the tenth house will impair the prospects of the native of rising high in his profession. This is not a good location for the affairs of the tenth house. He will be intelligent. The native’s father will earn well through the government and the father will belong to a high family. If the owner of the tenth house is weak, afflicted and has no beneficial influence here, the elder brother/sister of the native will be rich and rise high in life. His maternal uncle will be a man of high status.

BV Raman: The person will have an occupation bearing on judiciary, prisons or hospitals. If Saturn aspects the 10th lord he may have to work all his life in a low-paying job with not much prospects. If benefics aspect the 10th lord, he holds a post of authority and will be held in high esteem for his character. If Rahu or afflicted malefics are with the 10th lord, he may suffer disgrace in his career. He may be exposed to criminal action or face imprisonment.

10th Lord in the 7th House

Sage Parasara: If the 10th lord is in Yuvati Bhava, the native will be endowed with happiness through wife, be intelligent, virtuous, eloquent, truthful and religious.

DS Mathur: The placement of the owner of the tenth house in the seventh indicates that the native will have partners in his business and if the owner of the tenth is powerful and well placed, he will gain from such partnership. He may be in the foreign service of the country and hold diplomatic assignments. The native’s wife will be good looking, loving, well behaved and good tempered. She will have wealth and property and will be well read. She may assist the native in his business affairs. When the owner of the tenth house here has malefic influence, the native’s job may involve managing females for the purpose of gratification of senses. He could thus be a pimp or procurer and he may himself be morally degraded. Such an owner of the tenth house is also bad for the longevity of the first child of the native’s younger sister /brother. His elder sister/brother will go abroad and may live there.

BV Raman: This placement gives a mature wife who will assist the native in his work. He will travel abroad on diplomatic missions. He will be well known for his skill in talking and achieving objectives. He will make profits through partnerships and co-operative ventures. If malefics afflict the 10th lord, the native will be debased in his sexual habits and indulge in every kind of vice.

10th Lord in the 8th House

Sage Parasara: If the 10th lord is in Randhr Bhava, the native will be devoid of acts (actions), long-lived and intent on blaming others.

DS Mathur: The native will be ailing and will have troubles in the right side of his body. He may be a criminal or a cruel person. A weak and afflicted owner of the tenth house in the eighth will mar the native’s career and affect his longevity. When the owner of the tenth house is placed in the eighth along with a malefic planet that is adverse for the chart, the longevity is affected. Such an owner of the tenth house will bring humiliations and dishonour to the native through his career. He may be imprisoned for irregularities committed in discharge of his official duties for making illegal wealth. He may be an undertaker, coroner or a butcher, if malefic influence, especially of Saturn is there on the owner of the tenth house. He is likely to be long lived. It will also make the native’s father a spendthrift and financially weak. This placement of the tenth owner makes the native’s mother oversexed which may cause difficulties for the native. If a powerful Jupiter influences the owner of the tenth house here, the native will have a well developed spiritual personality. He may be an advanced Tantric. If the owner of the tenth house is weak, afflicted and has no beneficial influence here, the younger sister/brother of the native will rise high in life.

BV Raman: The native has many breaks in career. If the 10th lord is fortified, he will occupy a high office in his field but only for a short time. If a malefic planet afflicts the 10th lord the person has criminal propensities and commits offences. If Jupiter influences the 10th lord by aspect or association in the 8th house, he will become a mystic or spiritual teacher. Saturn here makes the person an undertaker or otherwise employed in burning ghats, graveyards, etc.

“If the Ruler of the 10th House is placed in the 8th House conjunct Rahu, the native will despise others, be foolish in his activities and will engage in bad deeds.” - Sage Parasara, BPHS, Ch 21

10th Lord in the 9th House

Sage Parasara: If the 10th lord is in Dharma Bhava, one born of royal scion will become a king, whereas an ordinary native will be equal to a king. This placement will confer wealth and progenic happiness, etc.

DS Mathur: This is a happy position. If the owner of the tenth house is well placed in the ninth and is powerful there, the native will be attached to his parents, wealthy and truthful. The native may travel long distances in connection with his job and may earn from abroad. His conduct will be unblemished and his deeds fit to be emulated. He may be spiritually advanced and be a religious preceptor. If Mercury is powerful and well placed in the horoscope, the native will be a known scientist or mathematician. When Jupiter influences the owner of the tenth house here with a strong Saturn or Mercury well placed in the horoscope, the native may be a legal luminary. His father will be self made personality, wealthy but miserly.

BV Raman: This placement makes the native a spiritual stalwart. If Jupiter aspects the 10th lord, this native will be a beacon of light to spiritual seekers. If both benefics and malefics aspect the 10th lord, the native is generally fortunate and well-to-do. He follows a hereditary profession or that of a preacher, teacher or healer. The father of the native has a great influence on him. He will be a dutiful son and do many charitable deeds.

“If the 10th Lord is exalted in an angle house (1, 4, 7 or 10) or a trine house (1, 5 or 9) and be in the company of or in aspect to Jupiter (without afflictions), one will be engaged in worthy or noble deeds.” - Sage Parasara, BPHS, Ch. 21

10th Lord in the 10th House

Sage Parasara: If Karm’s Lord is in Karm Bhava, the native will be skilful in all jobs, be valorous, truthful and devoted to elders.

DS Mathur: This is a happy location and if there is no adverse influence on this house, it will elevate the native to a very high position. He will have a successful career and will be respected. He will have house, vehicles and comforts accruing out of his job. He will have wealth and will be handsome. The good results are further accentuated if the owner of the tenth house is a beneficial planet. The native’s father will be wealthy and eloquent. His mother will be long lived and happily married. His children will not have trouble from enemies and will lead a healthy life.

BV Raman: If the 10th lord is strongly disposed in the 10th house, the native can be highly successful in his profession and will command respect and honour. If the house lord is weak and afflicted, he will have no self-respect, always cringing for favours. He will also be a dependent all his life. He will be fickle-minded. If the 10th lord occupies the 6th, 8th or 12th house from Navamsa, the native’s career will be routine and ordinary. If three other planets conjoin the 10th lord in the 10th house, the native becomes an ascetic.

10th Lord in the 11th House

Sage Parasara: If the 10th lord is in Labh Bhava, the native will be endowed with wealth, happiness and sons. He will be virtuous, truthful and always delighted.

DS Mathur: This is also a happy position. If the owner of the tenth house is well placed in the eleventh and is powerful there, the native will have plenty of profits and will be in a position of power. He will have highly placed friends. He will gain by employing others. His elder brother/sister is likely to stay away from him. If the owner of the first house is weak and under malefic influence with the owner of the fourth or sixth house involved in this placement, the elder brother/sister is likely to be short lived and prone to hospitalisation. His children may not have successful partnerships and the spouse of the eldest child may be sickly.

BV Raman: This native earns immense riches. He is fortunate in every respect and he will engage himself in meritorious deeds. He will give employment to hundreds of persons and will be endowed with a high sense of honour. He will have many friends. If the Eleventh House comes under affliction, his friends will turn into enemies and cause him every sort of hardship and worry.

“Native will face obstructions with regards to his actions or work if the 10th lord is placed in a debilitated state while the 10th house from the Ascendant and the 10th from 10th House (i.e. the 7th house from Ascendant) are both occupied by malefic planets.” - Sage Parasara, BPHS, Ch. 21

10th Lord in the 12th House

Sage Parasara: If the 10th lord is in Vyaya Bhava, the native will spend through royal abodes, will have fear from enemies and will be worried in spite of being skilful.

DS Mathur: This indicates that the native will squander away his father’s wealth. He will have liaisons with other women. The native may derive his income from hospitals, nursing homes or asylums. He may go to a far away place in connection with his vocation. Unless the owner of the tenth house is powerful and has beneficial influence on it, the native’s career will not be smooth and successful. If there is beneficial influence on the owner of the tenth house, and the Sun or Jupiter is strong and well placed in the chart, the native will be interested in spiritual upliftment and will seek self-realisation. The native’s father is likely to have landed property. If the owner of the tenth house is weak, afflicted and has no beneficial influence here, the first child of the native will be rich and rise high in life.

BV Raman: This native will have to work in a far-off place. He will lack comforts and face many difficulties in life. If beneficially disposed, the native becomes a spiritual seeker. He will be separated from his family and will wander about without success if malefics afflicted the 10th lord. He will indulge in smuggling and other nefarious activities. Rahu afflicting the 10th lord makes the native a cheat and a criminal. He causes sorrow to his family and relatives.
